Let’s start from the beginning. Generative AI has been a hot topic in recent days, months and years in the tech scene and has now been gaining a lot of traction in the public opinion as well. But what exactly is it? Well, simply put, it’s a type of artificial intelligence that can create new content, such as images, text or even music. Now, let me take you a bit further down the rabbit hole, starting with some examples of generative AI models.

A large language model is a deep learning model trained on massive amounts of text data that can generate natural language responses and has achieved state-of-the-art performance on a variety of natural language processing tasks.

 

Text to image Models

 

  • DALL-E: Developed by OpenAI, DALL-E is a text-to-image model that can generate images from textual descriptions of objects that don't exist in the real world. DALL-E can generate high-quality images of surreal objects and scenes, such as a snail made of harps or a cube made of cheeseburgers.
  • AttnGAN: Developed by Microsoft Research, AttnGAN is a text-to-image model that generates images from textual descriptions using attention-based generative adversarial networks (GANs). AttnGAN can generate high-resolution images of natural scenes, birds, and flowers from textual descriptions.

  • Gato: Developed by DeepMind, Gato is a generalist agent developed by researchers at DeepMind. It is a multi-modal, multi-task, and multi-embodiment generalist policy. It can do things like playing Atari games, captioning images, stacking blocks with a real robot arm, and more. Gato is trained on a large number of datasets comprising agent experience in both simulated and real-world environments, in addition to a variety of natural language and image datasets. The same network with the same weights can play Atari, caption images, chat, stack blocks with a real robot arm, and much more, deciding based on its context whether to output text, joint torques, button presses, or other tokens.
